Drive In Movie Party!

Drive in Movie Party

This week’s blog was inspired by a friends’ adorable daughter’s birthday. She is turning five and wanted to have a Drive-in Movie themed birthday party. While discussing some options, I became totally intrigued! What a fantastic, fun and adorable idea for a kids party! Not to mention very easy to style and execute …

If you live in an area where actual drive in movies still exist, then load up the car with the kiddos and a picnic. Be sure to include lots of blankets and some twinkle lights for a little ambience. Adorn the kids with glow bracelets, necklaces and colorful hair accessories to add a little light. Kids can get cozy in the trunk with a ready-made picnic and some guaranteed fun.

To avoid several trips to the concession stand, have the kids create a candy/snack necklace ahead of time complete with gummies, pretzels and dried cereal. You can even add some dried fruits for a healthy infusion. If you have a bit more time, customize takeaway trays for each kid complete with movie time favorites such as popcorn, candy, fruit and drinks. These trays from Pink Lemonade Party Supply Shop adorned with a ribbon and labels are super cute.

Don’t have a drive in movie option? Create one yourself. Inflatable backyard screens are available for rent. Mark off your screening area with twinkle lights or garland. Layout some blankets or provide seat cushions for regular seating. You can easily rent simple loungers or have guests bring their own chairs.

For the little ones, you can create makeshift cars to evoke the feeling of actually being at the drive in like this idea from Simplistically Sassy!  Don’t have a backyard?  You can create a Drive-in Movie screening right in your own living room.

With more control in your backyard, create your own concession stand. Use bright red and white stripe containers and fill them with jumbo sized candy bars.  Want to minimize the sugar highs? Prepackage candy snacks for the kids in small salad dressing containers with labels.

Add some excitement to the mix and try some glow in the dark cotton candy. It’s inexpensive and easy to assemble and a definite crowd pleaser!  My Little Cottage in the Making blog did a little research on this cool glowing treat.

Too many guests to customize treats for but still want to make an impression? Create a make your own popcorn bar. Don’t just have flavored salts, throw in some sweets like Milk Duds, M&M’s or white chocolate chips. If you don’t have enough time to customize, fill a wagon with treats for guests to sort through. It can be moved around to all your guests and replenished easily. Great example from Your Home Based Mom blog.
